When we first met Debby Van Der Veer from Blandat earlier this year, we were instantly drawn to her intense energy and tenacity towards her creations. Debby’s fabrics erupt in an amalgamation of colours, patterns and techniques, all of which thrive in every environment in which they come to live. Debby’s main focus is on creating the textiles themselves, what you choose to create from them is up to your own imagination. I have seen these works of art, as chairs and wallpaper, as cushions and kimonos, as shoes and even bags, there truly are no limitations. To see more of Blandat’s work visit her Website and order away.

Akedo is the brainchild of my friend and sister Eleni Labrou. There truly is no designer like her in the country. When we decided to use some of Debby’s pieces for a shoot there really was no question that this would be a perfect collaboration. They are both true artists in everything they do, chasing down their dreams with the fiercest of determination.

When it came to sourcing the location we came across a piece written by Casimir TV on the L.Ron Hubbard House in Linksfield and were just blown away. This house originally built by a Greek Wood Merchant is an architectural marvel. Wood panelling and floors make for the perfect canvas dressed by beautiful furnishings  and pieces of history. It was a phenomenal experience to shoot there. The house is now a museum and recognised in Johannesburg as a heritage building. A big thank you to our host and custodian of the space ‘Puneet Dhamija’
