Podcasts in my narrow opinion are the new radio. They offer a refreshing break from the visual snowfall that is TV; raw, honest and intimate it’s a way to reconnect with our thoughts and let the imagination run. Get through all that desk work, whilst still keeping the little hamster wheel turning. Here are my top picks to fight back the boredom:
Man Repeller is all things intelligent and witty, in the name of fashion. ‘Oh Boy,’ the man repeller podcast is hosted by Jay Buim, and he is on a mission to pick the brains of the women who inspire him. He chats to the likes of Alexa Chung, Christene Barberich, and Whitney Cummings.
Garance Doré is a French photographer, illustrator, blogger and all round French-spiration (Oh my wit). Her podcast ‘Pocket Pardon my French’ is a condensed version of her video series ‘Pardon My French’. Garance discusses issues and life, with her friends and colleagues. Offering insight that only a French women can. A mere one-month-old, it’s worth a listen.
The Vogue Podcast – Need I say more
An incredible selection of podcasts to be found on the monocle website. ‘Culture with Robert Bond’ he reviews the latest and greatest books, films music and more. Section D talks about all things design and fashion. ‘The Menu’ (self explanitory), ‘The Entrepreneurs’ and ‘Monocle Weekly’ are the lifeblood to my long weeks. These can all be downloaded on iTunes.
This podcast is designed to stimulate curiosity. They bring to the forefront of your mind the most random and arbitrary stories. Architecture, sounds, phone booths in the dessert and sculptures in Tel Aviv, things we have never thought to notice. Roman Mars is the founder and creator of this fun, listening time for your ears. He started it in his bedroom, which I feel is a great beginning to any story.
This is Criminal is a quirky podcast run by Phoebe Judge, Eric Mennel, and Lauren Spohrer. They talk about all things crime, murder, mysterious deaths, and unsolved cases.
It’s tough to explain why I love this podcast so much. Just go and give it a listen. They also produce the incredibly popular podcast Serial ( Nuff said)
Dive right into the bubbling pot-o-stew that is a 21st-century take on radio, and learn a tidbit or two. I’ll be there hanging out with my earphones in.
